'ThinkingBlock' object has no attribute 'text': Why a Newer Claude Model No Longer Starts Its Response with Text, and How to Fix It

You switched your Claude API calls to a newer model, and now you get AttributeError: 'ThinkingBlock' object has no attribute 'text', or the response text comes back empty. The cause is that Claude 5 and later models think when needed even if you don't set thinking, so the first block of the response becomes a thinking block. Claude 4 models didn't think unless you set it, so changing only the model name changes the shape of the response. With simple inputs the first block is still text, so tests that use light inputs pass. Based on Anthropic's documentation and my own tests of four models (November 1, 2026), this article covers the cause, how to fix it by finding text blocks by type (Python and TypeScript), what to do when max_tokens leaves you with no text, which models can and can't turn thinking off, and how not to miss it in testing.

Claude Fable, Opus, Sonnet & Haiku: Pricing and Performance Compared [2026]

Claude Fable, Opus, Sonnet & Haiku: Pricing and Performance Compared [2026]

Claude has three main tiers: Opus 5.5, the model Anthropic points to as the place to start when you're unsure (as of October 2026); the balanced Sonnet 5.5; and the fast, low-cost Haiku 5.5. Above them sits the top-tier Fable 5.1. On the API, Opus 5.5 output costs $20/MTok, cheaper than the previous starting point, Opus 5 ($25), versus $10 for Sonnet 5.5 and $0.50 for Haiku 5.5, released October 7 (for prompts up to 100K tokens), one-tenth of Haiku 4.5. This guide uses official benchmarks and cost estimates by use case to help you find the right model.

What Is LLMO? How to Get Cited by ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity — Crawlers, Writing and Real Log Data

LLMO (Large Language Model Optimization) means preparing your site so that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini read your pages and show them as sources when they answer. AI uses pages through two routes, training and search at answer time, and each company splits them into separate robots. We cover the official roles of the OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity and Google crawlers and what happens if you block them, the writing that worked in the GEO paper, and a measurement from this site's own access logs.

Claude Code Token-Saving Tips and What Happens When You Hit the Limit

Ever been surprised how quickly Claude Code burns through tokens? This article explains why token use is so high, shares 10 practical saving techniques, and covers what happens at the limit: Pro and Max have a 5-hour window and a weekly limit, and extra charges apply only if you turn on usage credits, which bill overage at API rates.

When you ask Claude Code or ChatGPT about setting up a development environment, there's a good chance they'll suggest Docker. But what exactly is Docker? Do you really need it? This article explains why AI recommends Docker, provides a decision flowchart to determine if you need it right now, covers the essential concepts, and shows you alternatives so you can start coding without Docker.
